The SN Student Ambassador (SNSA) Scheme

The School of Nursing (SN) at PolyU has a Student Ambassador Scheme through which the more senior students are recruited to voluntarily serve as the School of Nursing Student Ambassador (SNSA). The Scheme aims to enhance personal development, strengthen the sense of belonging of SN students, and provide additional academic and personal support to junior students.  Potential SNSA attend training workshops which are specifically designed to familiarize them with the curriculum of undergraduate programmes, history and development of SN; and to enhance their skills in communication, presentation, peer counseling, and teamwork. In particular, the training includes a Certificate Course in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). The successfully trained SNSA have a role to serve as the peer mentor who provides support and guidance to freshmen students in SN. They also serve as an ambassador who actively participate in community activities and promotion of SN, e.g. the PolyU Info Day, school talks which introduce university life to prospective secondary school students, and other events that inform our society about the roles of nurses. There are currently around 20 – 30 SNSA from different undergraduate programmes (since 2012/13).  The SN regularly calls for recruitment of new SNSA.
