The Hong Kong Innovation Day

To nourish a culture of innovations in healthcare, the School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is organising The 5th Hong Kong Innovation Day (HKIA).

HKIA aims to stimulate innovative ideas and concepts that bring immediate benefits to the patients, clinicians as well as the healthcare industry. We cordially invite healthcare institutions (public or private), universities and colleges, as well as entities and small private enterprises focusing on health innovations in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area of China to submit their contributions regarding the solutions, discoveries and innovations in healthcare science to participate in The 5th Hong Kong Innovation Day.

The winner will be awarded with a trophy, a certificate and a cash prize. Outstanding team(s) selected by the jury at the Hong Kong Innovation Day will also join The Global Healthcare Innovation Day (GHID) to be held in Brighton, UK in 2023 to compete for the Innovation for Health Award of Excellence.

Initially developed by leading healthcare organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, GHIA has grown into an international collaboration between Switzerland, Canada, Hong Kong and UK. The international event is to provide a platform that allows entrepreneurs, academics and healthcare professionals to showcase and promote their healthcare innovations, as well as to exchange ideas that benefit medical and healthcare sciences.

Adjudication


Eligibility of Submissions:

  • Preferably at the pre-commercial stage
  • Fully developed or implemented in healthcare settings after 6 to 9 months ideally
  • Potentially marketable products
  • Scientific or technological solutions

The Process

  1. The adjudication process will begin with initial screening of the submitted abstracts by the judging panel, where the top-tier submissions will be selected as finalists.
  2. Each of the top-tier teams will prepare presentation PowerPoint to the judging panel before the final event date.
  3. On The 5th Hong Kong Innovation Day, the top-tier teams will each gives a short oral presentation to the judging panel and responds to their questions. They will give a concise summary of the uniqueness and novelty of their innovations orally.
  4. Finally, the judging panel will decide the Winner, First, Second Runner-up, and The Social Innovation Award.

Video Clipping Presentation (only for winners):

To maximize the publicity of the event, we will like to use social media to disseminate during and after the event. You will need to prepare a 5-minute Youtube video pitch describing your health/ healthcare innovation or solution. Video pitching details:

  • Maximum 5 minutes in length
  • YouTube format
  • Your video pitch should be fun, interesting and able to engage a wide audience.
  • Video content should cover:
    • A description of the innovation.
    • Its importance/impact to health, healthcare or the health system (please include reference to evidence or scientific relevance to support your claims).
    • What makes your innovation unique?

Winner(s) will represent Hong Kong to compete for the Innovation Award of Excellence at the Global Healthcare Innovation Day in Brighton, UK in 2023.

Abstract Submission

Abstract submitted should be demonstrated an improvement / a solution on the current standard of care or healthcare problem based on Key factors of Adjudication.

Each participant may submit more than one abstracts, as chief investigator or co-investigator. Each abstract should be submitted via a single online registration, with contents of around 1000 words which include the four standard sections –

(1) Introduction/Objectives

(2) Methods

(3) Results

(4) Conclusion

Participant can also submit supplementary (optional) materials (e.g. PowerPoint, diagrams) to make further elaboration if necessary.
