Introduction of nursing programme in PolyU: For advanced practicing nurses

If you are advanced practicing nurses and a bachelor's degree holder of nursing in PolyU or its equivalent, a nursing programme like the Master of Science in Nursing may help you further develop the necessary knowledge. For PolyU's Master of Science in Nursing, applicants should be currently practicing in a specialist field

This course requires 30 credits for graduation. Normally, the course will last for 1.5 years for full-time students and 2.5 years for part-time students. Each student should finish 3 core subjects and 4 elective subjects. In addition, they should finish a dissertation or practicum part. For the core subjects in this nursing programme, the students will get into the concepts of how advanced practicing nurses works. Student can choose from advanced child and adolescent health assessment or advanced health assessment on mother. For the research subject, they can choose either qualitative research or quantitative research.

This is a self-financed programme, and most subjects are offered in the evening. For the part-time students, they can arrange a better schedule from busy work. Some courses are offered during the summer semester, part-time students could choose those non-summer courses. Students can choose a research dissertation or clinical option. For the student who chooses practicum, they have to undertake field placements. Also, some subjects may need to finish field placements too.

As the healthcare is reforming in Hong Kong, the graduate of Master of Science in Nursing should be able to meet the demands and become advanced practicing nurses. Graduates are expected to analyze and evaluate the ongoing professional practices in a critical way. The knowledge they learnt in this nursing programme makes the student capable to become an advanced practicing nurses and create new projects in their work.
